چکیده

An existing open and modular designed micro X-Ray Computed Tomography (μXRCT) system is extended by a test rig in order to combine mechanical hydro-mechanical experiments with μXRCT characterization. The aim of the cover complete resolution range underlying combination broad load capacity range. A characteristic feature developed setup that it consists mainly standard components. This makes shown potentially interesting for other researchers considering extending an apparatus situ testing. For frame, uniaxial 10 kN universal testing machine digital control was employed, which two aligned rotational stages. ±3.1 can be combined torque moments up ±15 N m both limited used such way different x-ray transparent cells (flow cells, oedometer triaxial etc.) integrated generate three-dimensional stress/strain states as required porous media research. Three applications demonstrate possible versatile use system. As part these examples, we show how corresponding are implemented. Finally, discuss presented approach’s technical advantages disadvantages suggest improvements.

X-ray micro-computed tomography

Micro-computed tomography (μCT) has been successfully used to study the cardiovascular system of mouse embryos in situ. With the use of barium as a suitablecontrast agent, blood vessels have beenimaged and analysed quantitatively such asblood volume and vessel sizes on embryosof ages 14.5 to 16.5 days old. The advantageof using this imaging modality is that it hasprovide...

X-ray Computed Tomography for Non-Destructive Testing

Several important technological and economic trends are shaping the research on non-destructive testing techniques. They include increasing computerisation and automation, fusion of different NDT methods, new market expansions, use of the techniques as a process control tool, and a proliferation of merges, consolidations and joint ventures. Other important factors such as the development of new...

X-ray computed tomography.

X-ray computed tomography (CT), introduced into clinical practice in 1972, was the first of the modern slice-imaging modalities. To reconstruct images mathematically from measured data and to display and to archive them in digital form was a novelty then and is commonplace today. CT has shown a steady upward trend with respect to technology, performance and clinical use independent of predictio...

Quantification of eggshell microstructure using X-ray micro computed tomography

1. X-ray microcomputed tomography can be used to produce rapid, fully analysable, three-dimensional images of biological and other materials without the need for complex or tedious sample preparation and sectioning. We describe the use of this technique to visualise and analyse the microstructure of fragments of shell taken from three regions of chicken eggs (sharp pole, blunt pole and equatori...

Empirical correlation for porosity deduction from X-ray computed tomography (CT)

For obtaining reservoir petrophysical properties, for example porosity, non-destructive methods such as X-ray computed tomography, CT, seems to be precise and accurate. Porosity is deducted from the CT image with a single scan via different techniques, such as pore space detection by image segmentation techniques then correlation with porosity. More than one hundred samples with carbonate li...
